It is essential that the procedures laid down in the Guide be strictly followed in all cases of disciplinary action against seafarers at sea, in order to minimise the risk of costly claims of unfair dismissal against employers.

Published on an annual basis, the Chamber's survey is the only authoritative guide to earnings levels of UK seafarers and provides comparisons between different shipboard positions, vessel types and trading areas.

The Common Marine Inspection Document (CMID) aims to reduce the number of audits carried out on individual marine vessels through the adoption of a common auditing standard for the offshore marine industry. A competent and independent third party should complete the audit. As a 'living' document, the CMID can be kept updated on board, so that the time required for an audit can be reduced. This revised guidance on its use shows how this can be accomplished.

Guidance on use of the CMID sets out a worked example together with notes to assist auditors in completing the document. The guidance also identifies sections for which vessel personnel can prepare by assembling appropriate documentation prior to the auditor's arrival.

These Guidelines, published by the UK Offshore Operators Association (UKOOA), provide guidance to Operators, Owners, Logistic companies and especially Masters and crew of offshore support vessels and Offshore Installation Managers (OIMs) on avoiding and reducing the hazards and risks associated with the movement of Cargos to and from Offshore Locations.
